Challenges for Contemporary Life Sciences

We are very happy to invite you to the Vth International Conference on Research and Education "Challenges for the Contemporary Life Sciences" which will be held at Collegium Biologicum - the seat of the Faculty of Biology, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań. This Conference continues the series of very successful meetings initiated in 2009 and continued in 2011, 2014 and 2017.

It would be a great honour to host you in one of the most active research centres dealing with biological sciences in Poland. The conference would come in a very special year. 2019 marks a 100th anniversary of our University. However, as among the first Chairs of the new University were chairs in biological sciences, it also marks 100th anniversary of life sciences in Poznań. Athough we would like to celebrate our forefathers and the history, the conference would constitute, first of all, a look at the future prospects of biological research.

Similarly to previous editions, this conference would cover all areas of modern biomedical and environmental research, including plant, animal, microbial, and human biology and ecology; taxonomical studies; biotechnology and bioinformatics. In the program you would notice many important topics, spread over all levels of the hierarchical organisation of life, starting from molecular, through cellular and organismal, and up to population and ecosystem levels, ranging from basic science to its applications. Traditionally, we are also planning one session devoted to educational issues, which this time “Internationalisation at home” would cover issues related to education, achievements and challenges of teaching. We look forward to many fruitful discussions, potentially leading to the future successful collaborations.

The structure of the conference is of special importance. It intertwines plenary sessions addressed to all interested participants with sessions intended for students and organized by Students’ Association of Naturalists, and with BIORUN conference dedicated to and organized by PhD students. We do believe that such a mix will create a special atmosphere for the new generation of researchers to create cross-collaborations between scientists of various experience, and will guarantee the future of life sciences.

We would like to thank many individuals and committees for their advice, and instructive comments. We specially would like to thank all our collaborators who are making a great effort for the conference to come to reality.

We do hope you would enjoy a vibrant research atmosphere during the conference and a pleasant stay in Poznań.
